ZHANGYE Talks About his Latest Release ‘Wherever The Wind Blows’

  1. Hi ZHANGYE, how are you doing? How has your summer been so far?

It has been a scorching hot summer in Beijing this year! Work at the moment is not as busy for various reasons. However, the release of the new song definitely has made this summer more pleasant.

  1. How would you describe your sound as an artist in a few words?

Energetic, thoughtful, dynamic, versatile and sophisticated.

  1. Your new single ‘Wherever The Wind Blows’ featuring KARRA is sounding great! What has the reaction to the release been like so far?

So far so good. We seem to have quite a growing audience base in Europe, especially in Germany and Italy, music fans there have showed a lot of love for this song.

  1. What was the creative writing process like for this track?

We made a lot of changes, back and forth for this song. The topline was actually created first. The idea was to find the best style of arrangement for the topline. We kept two versions in the end, the one published already, and the other one is the music festival version which is not yet released.

  1. It looks like you had a great time filming the music video for ‘Wherever The Wind Blows.’ What was the inspiration the video?

Haha you’re probably right! It was fun making the video together with the team. The folks you see in the video are some of the members from my venture capital firm. We were at a team outing that day and the video was taped that day.

  1. What advice would you give to anyone who would like to start making their own dance music?

I would be cautious not to be too presumptuous and overly trendy on the timbre. There are boundaries in EDM as well. The focus should be on the music itself.

  1. If you could have a DJ residency at any club on the planet, where would you choose?

Perhaps Ibiza. It’s the trend-setting party capital of the world. Quite some acts were performed there which have eventually made their own marks on the industry in their unique ways. It would be interesting to play there one day.

  1. Do you have any upcoming gigs planned?

I was supposed to be performing at one of the largest local music festivals in China in August, however the event just got delayed due to the covid pandemic.

  1. Are you working on any new music at the moment? If so, what can we expect?

Recently I have been working with a very talented male singer on a new song. It’s close to the finish line. I very much look forward to presenting the new song to everyone. Stay tuned.
