KHAG3 Talks About his Latest Release ‘That’s Who You Are’ on Hexagon Rec.

  1. Hey KHAG3! Glad to have you here to talk with you about your latest release ‘That’s Who You Are’.

Thank you for having me. I’m excited to talk with you guys.

  1. Can you please tell us more details about ‘That’s Who You Are’? How did it come to life and when and why on Hexagon Rec.?

I wanted to create a slightly different track than usual. Away from my bass house and tech house roots. It should be more melodic and soulful and with the gospel singing I found the perfect vocals for the track. Hexagon is known for its melodic future house tracks and that’s why it was the first label I contacted. I was very happy that Don Diablo and the Hexagon team signed this track.

  1. What sets ‘That’s Who You Are’ apart from your previous work, and why should listeners tune in?

The track is very melodic and also faster than my other songs (135bpm). With the stuttering effects I also captured the current trend in electronic music quite well. Even if that wasn’t my initial intention. It just happened that way and fit the track perfectly.

  1. How would you describe your sound?

I describe the KHAG3 sound as very moody. I’m a big fan of music that makes you dream and get lost in your thoughts. However, I also love dancing to powerful and crazy bass house and tech house tracks in clubs or festivals. That’s why I don’t want to commit to a specific sound. It just depends on how I feel when I sit down at my laptop and start making music. Other big DJs also regularly try out their sounds. I think that’s great. It’s nice that you don’t have to commit. I’m also a big fan of vocal songs. I love working with singers. I like that much more than using samples.

  1. Who is KHAG3 and why music? At what age did you get into music and how?

When I was 18, almost 10 years ago, I started making my first mixes and playing in local clubs in Stuttgart. In 2019 I started producing my own tracks. Music has always been an important part of my life. Even at a young age, I loved buying the latest hip-hop albums and I also danced for a long time. I even tried being a rapper myself, but luckily these songs only exist on my own computer.

  1. Do you remember the name of the first song that made you love electronic music?

Spaceman by Hardwell and Mammoth by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike really blew me away back then. In general, the 2010s EDM period is legendary. I miss that old EDM/Big Room sound.

How You Love Me by 3LAU and Gecko by Oliver Heldens are also absolute classics.

  1. Who or what has been your biggest inspiration throughout your music journey?

My biggest inspiration why I started DJing was the mixes from 3LAU in 2013. Back then, 3LAU Haus managed to mix electronic music with commercial vocals. That was really new and sounded great.

The biggest inspiration why I started producing was Tchami. For me, his sound embodies the perfect mix of deep bass and melodic tones. In recent years, Fred Again has become an absolute role model for me. His music is full of emotions and feelings. This is really unique.

  1. What’s the one activity you love doing in your free time when not making music?

I love traveling and exploring new countries. And the best thing about it is, that I don’t have to stop producing. Today all you need is a laptop and a pair of good headphones. That’s fantastic, isn’t it?

  1. Can you tell us more about your dream and future collaboration and what do you hope to achieve in the next 5 years in your professional career?

I hope that more people discover my music and my mix series Break Out. I would also like to play at festivals more often. I love playing live and interacting with people.

It’s so nice to see that artists like Showtek, R3hab, Alok and many more supporting my music. I hope there are a lot more to come in the next five years.

  1. This is all for now. Thank you for your time answering our questions. Where can our community find out more about your music and your future releases?

I also had a lot of fun. You can find me on all social media or at www.khag3.com. Thank you very much and hopefully see you soon.
