- Hey Bodo Kaiser! Glad to have you here to talk with you about your latest collaboration ‘Being Human’ with Lange.
Hi! Thank you very much for having me, the collaboration with Lange actually had its digital release at the end of May this year, but I’m very excited that it’s now getting a vinyl release as part of his limited edition Retrospect Volume 8 album that came out this week!
- Can you please tell us more details about your collaboration ‘Being Human’ with Lange? What’s the story behind it?
Lange for me was always an icon that helped shape the landscape of this scene. After meeting him the first time in 2017 in LA we have shared the stage together many times in Switzerland. We developed a great friendship, and on one trip when he spent some extra days in Zürich we hit the studio together, just jamming and having fun at first, but then the basis of the track formed and it was finished later online.
You can get one of the limited vinyl copies of Retrospect Volume 8, which includes Being Human here.
- What sets ‘Being Human’ apart from your previous work, and why should listeners tune in?
Being Human is definitely more on the techy club side compared to my other productions. This is a reason I love working with other artists, it always allows me to explore other territories.
- How would you describe your sound?
I love experimenting with new sounds. It can result in some very genre-spanning music. My output also depends on the moodI i’m in when in the studio. I often don’t know where a session will end up It can turn out as a deep progressive tune or all of a sudden ending up on a 138 psy beat.
- Who is Bodo Kaiser and why music? At what age did you get into music and how?
My passion started at an early age of around 7 years old, when I realized how much I loved movies and music. Being raised in Europe in the 90s of course I was introduced to electronic music very early when it was still a rave underground scene which gained mainstream appeal in Switzerland after the Street Parade in Zürich, founded in 1992. Ii first attended the Parade in 1994 when I was 10 years old. Music was my first main passion but I started first working in the movie industry as a stuntman. Later my attention turned to my passion for music, and I first started DJing in local clubs with a desire to produce my own music following soon after.
- Do you remember the name of the first song that made you love electronic music?
It’s hard to name a single track but some that definitely got me into the early rave music was RMB, Dune, Perplexer, Marusha, Mark-OH to name a few. At the end of the 90s when electronic music started to develop in more different genres, the work of Cosmic Gate, Lange, 4 Strings catched my attention early on.
- Who or what has been your biggest inspiration throughout your music journey?
That’s a difficult one! As mentioned in the previous question, the development of Cosmic Gate has always catched my attention and has been a big influence, but also artists like Lange, Signum, Andy Moor, Above & Beyond were very influential on my work. Besides the artists, I was also always inspired by the events and their organization. I always like to know what is going on in the background, and creating events was another important part of my journey in the scene, as this craft takes a lot of effort to bring the music and production to the audience.
- What’s the one activity you love doing in your free time when not making music?
As I’m running my own business with 3 Kids and a strong strong passion for music I don’t have a lot of spare time! I just try to enjoy precious time with friends and family.
- Can you tell us more about your future dreams and what do you hope to achieve in the next 2 years in your professional career?
I like to aim my goals very high and I put as much effort into all aspects of my life as I can. Collaborating with a legendary artist like Lange has definitely been one of my highlights, and after the release with Lange I had the opportunity to collaborate with one of my favorite vocalist’s, Sarah Howells. I had the pleasure to work with Sarah on a number of songs, with our first release called “See For Miles” out in September on Black Hole Recordings. We have our second single, “Can’t Fight Water with Fire” coming on November 8th on AVA recordings. Another goal for the next year is to place my first artist album. The album is complete with many great collaborations on it, I’m currently looking for the right label to work with me on the project.
