- Can you please tell us more details about ‘Dancing In The Moonlight’? How did it come to life and when?
I guess this is the first cover track I have ever done. Always loved this track. We used to listen to the original from the 70s and the famous cover by the Toploader from 2000. When Jubel made their cover track in 2018 it also was a big inspiration for producing electronic dance music. When I got the opportunity to produce a cover track myself, I just had to go for it! 😀 Also love that tropical and melodic sound, so I had a lot of fun working on this. The track came together in 6 hours, so definitely one of those tracks that just “wrote itself”, which they seldom do, haha.
- What sets ‘Dancing In The Moonlight’ apart from your previous work, and why should listeners tune in?
I guess it has a very traditional tropical house sound to it, but with a very old school beatles kind of melody in the drops. This makes it slightly different from the rest of my tracks, which have much more generic and simple melodies. If you like the Beatles, tropical house or both, I think this one would be something for you. 😀
- How would you describe your sound?
My sound combines tropical house vibes with the anthemic energy you’d find in progressive house music. I aim to create tracks that feel like a blend of escapism and euphoria, with warm, sun-soaked melodies and uplifting drops that make you feel like you’re in an endless summer. I love the combination of easy but energic leads, vocal effects, and lots and lots of pianos! I also love incorporating ethnic elements from around the world, adding a little cross-cultural vibe.
- Who is VLX and why music? At what age did you get into music and how?
I am actually a Norwegian psychologist, who just has a big passion for music. I started playing the piano at 6. I tried singing when I was 8 years, but the vocal coach told me in the politest way possible that I really should pursue other things, haha 😛 For the last 6 years electronic music production has been my escape from work. It’s my time to recharge, or how I shift gears from work mode to a state of relaxation and creative expression.
- Do you remember the name of the first song that made you love electronic music?
I would probably say Titanium by David Guetta and Sia. It is still one of my favorite tracks. Whenever it comes on I just need to dance or run, simply impossible to sit still when that track comes on. I would also say Younger by Kygo. The sound in that track just had something completely new and special when it came out.
- Who or what has been your biggest inspiration throughout your music journey?
I would say the drive to become better at something, and the journey of improving your own skills in a creative way. I had a very hard time learning all the technical stuff involved in making electronic music. But those moments when you understand something new about the process, those small things that will get you closer and closer to producing professional music, those moments are just an amazing feeling.
- What’s the one activity you love doing in your free time when not making music?
I would say playing with my 1 year old son, or maybe watching documentaries with my wife, ideally with a bit of chocolate on the side.
- Can you tell us more about your dreams and future collaboration and what do you hope to achieve in the next 2 years in your professional career?
I hope that I can be able to produce some great music that people want to listen to. I would also love to collaborate with Sasha Sloan one day, but I wouldn’t count on it.
I also hope that those moments of understanding something new about producing music never stops, as those moments are truly incredible.
