Ckaabal’s debut album Prototype really is just that, a prototype. The soon-to-be-infamous duo Alberto Madrigal and Aaron Grycner turn the darkwave genre upside down, creating a prototype for a whole new genre of music, “Artwave.” With their pop-inspired debut single “Taxi,” Ckaabal will draw you in, but Prototype’s weird rollercoaster of synths and welching screams will make you a forever fan.
Combining EDM, post-punk, industrial, and darkwave, songs like “Galvanize” will take you on a journey through the dark, twisted minds of a band that you will soon see on every goth girl’s Spotify playlist. While obviously finding inspiration from so many genres, it’s impossible to credit other artists for Ckaabal’s ingenuity. The duo credits their offerings to the gods, and it’s hard to argue with the results. Whatever strange rituals Ckaabal is involved with, let’s hope they keep it up. Prototype’s innovative sounds can’t be found anywhere else. Madrigal’s iconic synths and Grycner’s unique voice will have you itching for more, something this prolific band will be delivering for years to come
