‘I Love Seeing My Vision Come To Life’ Armin van Buuren Recalls Epic Year and Focuses Spotlight on ASOT for 2025

From touring highs to industry shifts, Armin van Buuren shares his reflections on 2024 and what he’s planning for 2025.

Looking to 2025, Armin van Buuren stands at the crossroads of reflection and reinvention. The past year tested his adaptability, challenged his creativity, and deepened his connection with fans. From his Pillars of Creation’ performance in the Ras Al Khaimah desert to the move of A State of Trance to Rotterdam, 2024 was a year of transformation. Touring remained both exhilarating and exhausting, while the industry’s constant evolution demanded new ways to stay ahead.

As he gears up for another chapter, Armin shares the lessons, milestones, and defining moments that continue to shape his journey — in this exclusive EDMNOMAD interview with Angelo De Guzman.

2024: The Year That Was

For Armin van Buuren, 2024 has been filled with milestones, but one moment stands out. His ‘Pillars of Creation’ performance in the Ras Al Khaimah desert was a career-defining experience. The intimate yet groundbreaking set blended music, technology, and visual storytelling. Almost 800 drones illuminated the sky, while LED-lit pillars framed the stage. It felt like a Boiler Room-style performance, but on an entirely new level. “I loved seeing my vision come to life,” Armin shares. “Creating an immersive experience that connects human emotion and creativity through audiovisual elements was phenomenal.”

The Duality of Touring Life

Life on the road is exhilarating but also draining. For Armin, the thrill of travel comes with inevitable fatigue. “Stepping onto a plane to a new destination is exciting,” he says. “But the process itself can be tasking, both mentally and physically.” He admits that staying focused on the positives helps, but sometimes the repetitive motions of constant travel take a toll. “It’s give and take,” he explains. The reward is reaching fans around the world, but the journey to get there isn’t always easy.

Adapting to an Ever-Changing Industry

2025 presents a major challenge for Armin with the move of A State of Trance to Rotterdam. Armin had to rethink how to approach the event’s transition and maintain its legacy while embracing a new chapter. On a broader level, the constant evolution of the electronic music industry demands reinvention. “You always need to find ways to evolve without alienating your existing fanbase,” he acknowledges. Staying relevant while staying true to himself remains a delicate balance.

A Career-Defining Decision That Still Shapes Him

Long before achieving global success, Armin launched A State of Trance (ASOT) radio show—a decision that continues to influence him today. “I started ASOT simply because I wanted to share my love for dance music,” he recalls. Over time, the show transformed into a worldwide event brand, cementing his impact on the genre. Looking back, this choice set the foundation for a career that now spans decades. “I’m so proud we were able to make this happen,” he says.

The Power of Music and the Fans Who Keep Him Going

For Armin, every crowd fuels his passion. Whether performing at massive festivals or intimate venues, seeing fans enjoy his music reminds him why he started. “Every fan that visibly enjoys the music I play is a reminder of why I do this, he says. His ASOT radio show further solidifies this connection. Each week, fans from around the world visit the Amsterdam studio, sharing tracks that hold deep personal meaning. “I will never take that for granted,” Armin emphasizes.

Looking Ahead to 2025

With 2025 on the horizon, Armin is focused on both personal and professional growth. While he hasn’t revealed specific plans, one thing is certain—his dedication to pushing electronic music forward remains unwavering. As he continues evolving as an artist, his passion for connecting with fans and creating unforgettable experiences remains at the core of everything he does.

We’re rooting for you Armin, cheers to a wonderful 2025!
