After weeks of uncertainty, Insomniac finally announced the return of their iconic EDC festival in Las Vegas for May 2021. Their decision to move ahead with the original dates on the weekend of May 21 meant that they will be the first large-scale music festival to return since the pandemic had us all in lockdown. While the attendees were gearing up to finalize travel and living arrangements, the reports that EDC’s safety plan was rejected by the Nevada Department of Business and Industry baffled everyone.
Insomniac’s head honcho Pasquale Rotella, who has been very transparent and engaging with the fans on social media in the past, took to reddit to clarify concerns regarding the event’s safety plan. Rotella noted that the plan that was not approved will not be used and that “a revised plan is currently being worked on with government officials that will be executed to make EDC happen.” You can check out the full announcement megathread on reddit below.
Rotella assured that the event will happen with an approved plan to ensure the safety of the attendees, staff, headliners, and everyone involved. The details for the updated plan will be revealed in the coming days along with information about the lineup. He added that he will be “happy to jump on here (reddit) next weekend for an AMA” to answer any concerns or questions raised by the fans directly.
Their original plan was reportedly rejected as it did not comply with the Directive 041 requirement that restricts the number of people for large gatherings with other social distancing qualifications. With Rotella putting his credibility on the line, it is likely that the fans will get to unite under the electric sky once again after an unprecedently challenging time.
