If there’s one house artist that’s poised to truly break out in a big way in 2021, it’s Bexxie, or Rebecca Clements. After amassing over 2 million streams in just two months on her release ‘Feel The Energy’, Bexxie is back with her latest remix for Tommie Sunshine & Breikthru. Her remix of “Untouchable”, out now via Brooklyn Fire Records is an energetic and uplifting record that will get you moving on the dancefloors.
Starting the song with her trademark groove, she showcases her knack for incorporating elements from the 90’s house music scene. Bexxie achieves her imprint on the dance/electro-pop original with a high-powered ecstatic drop that remains true to the sound of house music.
With her exhilarating piano house style, it’s no wonder she’s now in the exalted position of being in the biggest Spotify Editorial playlists such as Mint, Housewerk, New UK House, Groove Theory, and more. - Hello Rebecca, how are you? We are glad to have you here.
I’m doing well. Thanks for having me on EDM Nomad!
- You recently released a very catchy remix of Tommie Sunshine & Breikthru’s ‘Untouchable’ featuring Kayslin Victoria, which is perfect for the dancefloors with your signature groove and euphoric pianos. Can you tell us more about your take on the song and how the project came together?
Thank you for the kind words! After my first Brooklyn Fire release, Surrender, came out, Tommie Sunshine asked me if I wanted to remix ‘Untouchable.’ When I heard the original, I knew I wanted to make an uplifting piano house track that was also dancefloor-friendly. It honestly came together pretty quickly once I got the stems.
- How would you describe your sound to those who are unfamiliar with you?
Uplifting, energetic house music with a touch of the early 90s old school sound.
- As an artist who has been featured on the biggest Spotify Editorial playlists including Mint & being on the cover of ‘Fresh Finds: Basement’, what’s it like getting recognition and support on your projects during this challenging time dealing with the pandemic?
I’m so grateful for all the support I’ve been getting on my music and happy it’s resonating with so many. I just hope it brings some joy during this challenging time.
- Can you tell us more about your early days starting to produce music and how did you get involved in the music industry?
I grew up in New Jersey and started going to raves in the NYC area during the late 90s. I got a pair of turntables pretty quickly after that as I loved the music so much and was so fascinated by DJing. That naturally progressed into producing sometime around the early 2000s. I produced some different styles, mainly drum and bass for many years. I took a break from music several years ago, and then started back up a couple years ago with house music.
Things were definitely a lot different back then as far as the technology and what I was using. When I started, I was mainly using Cubase and had some outboard gear. But now I work in Ableton using all software with just a midi controller.
- What was your biggest struggle that you’ve encountered in your career so far?
I think my biggest struggle has been my own limiting self-beliefs. I think a lot of artists and producers can relate to feelings of their music not being good enough or struggling with impostor syndrome. We can be our own worst enemies at times 🙂 But I do a lot of personal development work, read books, listen to podcasts, and meditate to work through it. It’s definitely helped a lot, but it’s a daily practice.
- Where do you see your sound going after this?
Honestly, that’s hard to say as making music for me is an intuitive process and I think it’s just something that will develop on its own the more music I make, and I’m excited to see how that will unfold in the future 🙂
- If you had the chance to collaborate with any artist of your choice, living or dead, who would you choose?
Trent Reznor. I’ve always been a fan of Nine Inch Nails since I was young, and Trent Reznor is so gifted at creating an atmosphere and conveying emotions through his songwriting and sound design.
- What are your goals for 2021? Can you give us any hints or clues about your upcoming productions and collaborations?
Nothing I can say specifically at this time, but definitely some more original music, more collaborations, and remixes. I’ve also set a goal to include my own vocals and original lyrics in more of my music this year.
- What’s your favorite EDM song that you play in your sets every time you get the chance?
Currently, it’s anything by Alex Mills. But I also like to incorporate early 90s classics like Inner City’s ‘Good Life’ or Bizarre Inc’s ‘Playing With Knives.’
- What do you do in your free time that makes you happy?
When I’m not making music, I enjoy cooking, hanging out with my dog, meditating, and working out.
- This is all for now, thank you for being here and answering our questions. If we forgot to ask you something and you want to share with our audience please write it down here.
Thanks for having me! I hope you enjoy my remix of Untouchable! 🙂
