- Hey HUGEL, how are you? Happy to have you here to ask you some questions about your latest song ‘Eyes On You’, and more about your artist career so far.

- Can you tell us more about the song, and what’s the story behind it? How did you feel about releasing the song on the biggest house label of all time ‘Defected Records’?
I wrote and produced this song in my management’s studio in Frankfurt with Quarterhead. It was actually our first session. We wanted to write something for the clubs. The « Eyes on you » lyrics idea came out and we liked it. After that we sent it to labels and everyone wanted it but to be honest I wasn’t expecting it would get the attention of Defected but it did. And here we are haha so that’s amazing because it was a childhood dream for me.
- What does the name ‘Eyes On You’ try to express? What’s the process when you give a name to a new song?
Well usually you write a catchy hook and the main lyrics of this hook will be used as the title. This is what we did here.
- Your style is so unique and you’re always able to deliver hits that are played on the radios. How would you describe your sound and what inspires you when you produce music?
I try to make the girls dance. It sounds funny but it’s a true thing though. I was a resident dj for 10 years before my actual career. I remember the boss of the club asking me to make sure the girls are dancing because then the guys would spend more money on bottles and then it would be a great night for everyone. I always keep this in mind when I produce a record. « The girls will love it »
- Can you tell us more about ‘Morenita’, the song which has over 6M streams on Spotify and it’s played at almost any party all around the world. What’s the secret to creating a hit, in your opinion?
The hardest thing to do is to have a beat that is gonna make the people dance in a club or on a big stage. But that is also gonna make them sing. I think ‘Morenita’ is a good balance in between. The latin vibe of the hook is really refreshing when you see what’s on the market at the minute.
- How did your passion for music start and at what age did you get into the music industry?
I think it started when I was still in my mom’s belly haha. My mom is crazy about funk soul disco and loves music in general. My dad always sang. I remember recording sick tapes as a kid with all the best hits from the radio and selling it at school. I discovered djing when I was 16, using vinyl and stuff. Then I earned my first 50€ in a club when I was 17. That day I knew I could make it as a job. I quit school the next day and since then have never stopped the music…
- What’s one piece of advice you can give to any up-and-coming music producers out there?
Don’t do it for the income – do it for the outcome.
- What’s the one thing you always do in your free time? Why?
I love boxing. First because I love life too much and I gotta stay in shape haha. I love it because it is also like dancing for me. It has something to do with rhythm and I’m passionate about it.
- What are your plans for the future? What about your dreams?
I wanna keep touring the world with my friends. I wanna go back to the US to tour and maybe stay on for a bit in Miami. My dream is to get new hits and do some bigger collaborations with artists I love.
