Kah-Lo Finds Beauty in New Beginnings on Atmospheric New Single ‘Suddenly, That’s Strange’

Lagos’ electronic trailblazer Kah-Lo releases a moving new single, ‘Suddenly, That’s Strange’ via her imprint Lagos Way Records. Following her momentous return with ‘Somersaults’ at the end of last year, the latest release continues to build into an exciting new chapter in her career. The track also follows on from her recent collaborative release with UK dance producer and DJChris Lorenzo titled ‘In This Bih’.

Suddenly, That’s Strange’ is a misty-eyed floor-filler that sees Kah-Lo move through shifting emotions over a quintessential pop-house groove. The track captures the weight of sudden change; that tender intersection where familiar paths lead to something new. Where change is often framed as unsettling, Kah-Lo instead leans into its beauty, finding a sense of peace as they go into the unknown. With subtle, dramatic pauses and delicate, vulnerable vocals, she lets the emotion breathe, while a colossal bassline opens beneath it, supplying the track with a deeply human touch.

Suddenly, That’s Strange’ is the latest ammo in Kah-Lo’s artistic arsenal, through which she begins to embrace deeper emotional storytelling through her music and lyrics, while still embracing euphoric dance elements that will get audiences moving. As a result, the energy of the tracks moves between the feet and the heart as she opens up about her feelings. She explains, “I wrote this right after my wedding, when everything was still fresh and making a club record didn’t feel natural anymore. I wanted to truly capture the vulnerability I was feeling, which has always felt scary for me, both in music and in real life.”

Kah-Lo first emerged on the global stage a decade ago, carving a unique niche for herself in the world of music. Blending pop, house and other electronic genres with her distinct sensibilities, Kah-Lo creates something captivatingly fresh. The mind and voice behind numerous era-defining hits, including ‘Rinse & Repeat’ (nominated for Best Dance Recording at the 2017 GRAMMY awards), ‘Fake ID’ and ‘Ginger’, Kah-Lo has highlighted herself as a singular talent since her career beginnings. Throughout the years, Kah-Lo has remained an in-demand vocalist, collaborating with a range of international artists, including Selena Gomez, Idris Elba, Diplo, Michaël Brun, The Knocks, and more. Retaining a strong presence in the UK scene, she has featured on songs from dance music favourites Naughty Boy, Billen Ted and Jamie Jones. Kah-Lo’s songs have continually been featured in a myriad of placements on TV and film, with her song ‘Get It‘ being featured on the FC24 soundtrack. Kah-Lo has showcased her vibrant energy on various international stages, playing shows and festivals across Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the US, and the UK.

Following the release of her debut EP The Arrival in 2021, a confident and genre-blurring project that reaffirmed her commitment to carving her own path, Kah-Lo continued to push boundaries with her 2023 debut album Pain/Pleasure. The 14-track record captured the highs and lows of her journey, blending experimental, high-energy production with her signature wit and sharp songwriting, further cementing her as a fearless and self-defined artist.

Now fully independent and steering the ship for her own label, Lagos Way Records, Kah-Lo has entered a bold new chapter in her career. Her 2025 return with ‘Somersaults’ signalled a renewed sense of creative freedom and intent, drawing attention from the likes of Tyler, The Creator, Rapsody and Bellah, and reinforcing the reach and impact of this next phase.

With ‘Suddenly, That’s Strange’, Kah-Lo steps into a more vulnerable space, showing that it’s not just joy that defines her sound, but also the quiet and awkward moments that carry their own kind of brightness.
