Kendra Erika Shares her Music Journey and More About her Future Plans

1. Hey Kendra Erika! Glad to have you here to talk with you about your latest release ‘Body Language’.

Yes, happy to talk about it!

2. Can you please tell us more details about ‘Body Language’? How did it come to life and when?

During a collaboration with Ellis Miah and Marvin Busseau. This incepted by us playing around with the intention I set forth in mind and in motion. I presented a few references, and then the concept, the lyrics, and the overall melodic pathway took form.

3. What sets ‘Body Language’ apart from your previous work, and why should listeners tune in?

I’d say it’s a continuation of the various catchy melodies I’ve put out previously. What does seem to set it apart is the amount of traction it is getting overseas, especially in Asia. I’ve gained lots of traction in Europe and in the states, but Asia is what is territorially differentiating it from the rest of my work.

4. Who is Kendra Erika and why music? At what age did you get into music and how?

Music and performing called me at first, so I just answered and followed its lead since I was a young age. The beginning was at age 8 when I began my operatic training to iron my tone deafness out of my system. I was not born with merit, so I’ve dealt with imposter syndrome my whole life. My parents had me trained by a classical coach, who built a technical foundation for me, and from there, I kept pursuing and solidifying my vocal abilities.

5. Do you remember the name of the first song that made you love electronic music?

It was a series of songs. Not one in particular.

6. Who or what has been your biggest inspiration throughout your music journey?

Experiences, defying societal grains, and overall drawing different inspirations into that journey.

7. You’re also an actress, can tell us also how you got into this and what’s the most challenging part of being an actress?

I started in theatre, and it just comes naturally to me. I don’t have an Ivy League degree or pompous certificate from an institution. Like, I said it’s something that I have more capabilities from an innate standpoint. As far as the most challenging part about it, I haven’t run into any challenges. The talent is in the choices, and I know which choices to make so I can still maintain the enjoyment of it.

8. Can you tell us more about your dream and future collaboration and what do you hope to achieve in the next 2 years in your professional career?

When that dream and future collaboration fall into my lap, I’ll know. In the next two years, I’d like to keep elevating and becoming more fortified and discerning in the projects I give my time and energy towards. The chess board is ever-changing and playing us to our abilities, so I have to leave this one up to God for that ultimate outcome.
