EXCLUSIVE: Electropop Trio Łaszewo talks Beginnings and Viral Success

In this Exclusive EDMNOMAD Interview, Łaszewo reveals the highs, lows, and untold stories behind their rise to fame.

Formed serendipitously in Santa Barbara, ŁaszewoMatthew Ehrlich, Keeva Bouley, and Justin De La Fuente—has quickly become one of electronic pop’s most dynamic acts. Since 2018, when Justin overheard Keeva singing through her open window, the trio has pursued an unwavering path to success. Now, as they embark on their largest North American headline tour, ŁASZEWO: LIVE IN COLOR, they reflect on milestones, challenges, and the dreams that brought them here.

From Small Beginnings to Viral Success

The journey from DJing college parties to headlining sold-out tours has been surreal for Łaszewo. “Honestly, it’s hard to pin down one moment that really changed things,” they admitted. “It’s mostly been the different milestones, like making our first music video or filming a live set in the Santa Barbara mountains.”

Their defining moment came with the release of Up In Flames, which has now exceeded 12 million streams. “We knew we had something special from the moment we released that single,” they shared. Each milestone affirmed their shared dream. “We’ve just kept going with an unspoken agreement that this is the direction we want to take our lives and careers.”

Finding Their Sound: Advice for New Artists

For Łaszewo, staying authentic amidst shifting trends is vital. Keeva advised new artists: “Stay the course! Musical trends are always shifting, especially with social media. It’s tempting to fit in, but it’s far more gratifying to make the music you truly want to create.”

Matthew echoed her thoughts on avoiding comparisons: “Comparing your music or career to others will only set you back. As they say, ‘comparison is the thief of joy.’” Their journey taught them to celebrate achievements. “While there’s always a next step, make sure to celebrate the wins and how far you’ve come,” Justin added. “Strive for more, but always be grateful for where you are.”

Experimenting With New Genres: Łaszewo’s Signature

Łaszewo’s sound may be rooted in electronic pop, but their musical diversity keeps things fresh. “Our decision-making process is always influenced by our wide array of interests,” they explained. Recently, they explored new territory with Be Here With Me Now, blending folk and country into electronic pop. “It was new territory, and the process was so imaginative,” they said. “Experimenting with genres helps us grow, but at the core, there will always be that signature Łaszewo sound.”

Keeva added, “Justin grew up on heavy bass, Matt with electronic and indie influences, and I have a background in country and indie.” This combination creates their distinctive sound. “We stand out, but sometimes it’s hard to know exactly where we fit,” Keeva shared. “We combine electronic production with singer-songwriter lyricism, which creates something unique to us.”

Lessons From the Road: Making Each Show Memorable

Touring has taught Łaszewo about their fans and themselves. “Our first headline tour was surreal,” they reflected. “Each city brings its own energy, and we make an effort to create special moments within each show to connect with the audience.” This focus has made their shows feel like more than concerts—it’s a shared experience that leaves lasting memories.

They’ve also learned the importance of balance. “Being on tour is amazing, but it’s tempting to give all of yourself,” they admitted. “There’s always something to do or somewhere to go, but we’ve learned to prioritize moments for ourselves. We remind each other to just breathe.” Touring is exciting, but they emphasize the need for recharging and appreciating the journey.

Reflecting on the Pandemic: Creative Challenges and Growth

During the pandemic, Łaszewo’s creative process was tested as they shared a house. “We were able to make music often during lockdown,” they said, “but living together was a one-and-done experience!” Staying creatively motivated was tough. “We work best with our own spaces, so we can treasure the time we spend creating together.”

Living together highlighted the importance of independence within collaboration. “We learned we’re stronger when we come together as individuals,” they shared. The experience strengthened their bond and deepened their appreciation for creative time.

Staying Grounded in the Age of Social Media

Łaszewo appreciates social media’s role in their growth, though it’s not their main focus. “Our song Til U Hate Me went viral on TikTok and introduced us to new fans,” they shared. “But we’re grateful for the organic, steady growth over the years.” While social media has been helpful, they pride themselves on building an authentic fanbase.

Embracing the Trio Dynamic: Supporting Each Other’s Dreams

Łaszewo sees doubt as part of any creative journey. “Doubt comes with the territory,” they acknowledged. But their trio dynamic gives them a unique advantage. “Being a trio means we have a safe space to share excitements, fears, and plans,” they said. “We push each other to be our best selves, and it’s an unbreakable bond.”

They credit their friendship for keeping them grounded and motivated. “We pride ourselves on holding each other accountable,” Matthew shared. “That’s what has fostered our friendship and musicianship, and it’s rare to find that level of trust.”

Advice for Dreamers: Persevere Through Highs and Lows

Łaszewo’s advice for aspiring artists is rooted in their own perseverance. “Stay true to yourself, even when things get tough,” Keeva emphasized. “Passion fuels a dream; focus on that.”

“Big movements take time,” Matthew added. “Surround yourself with people who genuinely support you, and don’t let setbacks define you.” For Łaszewo, their journey is filled with moments of doubt, but their unwavering bond, shared vision, and commitment to authenticity continue to drive them forward.
