- Hey Liah, how are you? Congratulations on your latest collaboration ‘Get Up’ with NAEMS.
Hey, I’m good thank you – the last few months were really exciting!
- Can you please tell us how this banger ‘Get Up’ was born? How did you meet NAEMS and decided to produce the song?
We actually already finished the first version of the track when my team and I decided to make “Get up” a collaboration. NAEMS was brought in because he liked the track and I thought that through his influence it will give the song this power of an energetic bass house track that it now has. We both had the vision of a festival track that people would not forget. The two of us really enjoyed the collaboration and are excited to work together in the future.
- Why should people listen to ‘Get Up’? Who came up with the name and why?
“Get up” is supposed to trigger a feeling of pure happiness and joy in people. We want to inspire them to never give up on their dreams and remind them how strong they are. The name is a result of the vocals that we used and it suits the message perfectly.
- Two months ago, we have posted clips from your live DJ set. What’s the song you can’t get bored by playing in your DJ sets?
That’s a really difficult question to answer because there is a lot of great music out there. But If I had to decide – it would definitely be “Next Level” from Julian Jordan. I love the energy that the track contains!
- What’s your favorite music genre?
I am totally into Electronic Dance Music but I also like to listen to hip hop and trap.
- Can you please tell us how your love for music started and at what age did you start to produce music?
I grew up in a very musical family so music was always a big part of my life. As a child, I learned to play the violin and the piano. That was very helpful when I started to produce my own music. When I got older, Electronic Dance Music was very fascinating to me and I enjoyed watching bigger DJ’s perform at festivals like Tomorrowland etc. on YouTube, as well as the DJ’s playing in Clubs that I went to. After going to my first festival (Open Beatz Festival), I was dreaming of people listening to my music and playing in front of crowds like this. I think I was 18 years old when I tried to make music by myself. I am so happy to have the support of people that are special to me. They motivate me everyday and together we make great music.
- How difficult is it for a woman to navigate through the music industry? Did you encounter any challenges regarding this? What’s the motivation that drives you and does not make you give up?
I would say that it is definitely more challenging for women in the music industry than it is for men. Prejudices like only getting booked for certain gigs because of our looks don’t make it easier. In my opinion, everybody should be treated the same without gender bias. I feel like female DJs and producers often have to prove themselves more than male ones but that gives us the chance to show our talents. My passion and drive for music is just stronger than any prejudices so I won’t let anything get between me and my love for music.I hope to empower more women to take their chances in this industry.
- What’s your process of producing a song and what inspires you when you’re in the studio?
There are a lot of things that inspire me and my team. In my creative process, I like to listen to different genres of music as well as different artists. We try to get out of our comfort zones to create something special and unique. Sharing ideas with each other helps us to create the type of music I want to go for. I spend a lot of time creating music but also try to find time for other things that makes me happy.
- What makes you happy? Why? What’s the hobby you love the most?
I am the happiest when making music because it’s a feeling of forgetting what happens around you. Not only making the music but also sharing it with the world is a great joy. I love to see the happy faces of people when they are listening to my tracks.
Besides music, I like to spend time with my family and friends. I am so happy to have found friends in the industry that I can share my passion with.
- What’s your biggest dream at this moment? How would a dream collaboration look like for you?
My biggest dream related to my music is to make a lot of people happy with my music and inspire them. I would love to collaborate with Julian Jordan, Seth Hills and TV Noise. Especially Julian Jordan is a big inspiration for me, because I love the energy of his tracks. Maybe someday there will be a massive Julian Jordan & Liah Collab.
