Martin Garrix Takes Jab At DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Ranking

Every year DJ Mag announces its often controversial ranking of the Top 100 DJs and Martin Garrix, currently ranked #1 has been adding fuel to the flames, saying that he doesn’t care about the ranking.

In an interview for the Dutch newspaper Het Parool, the three-time winner of the competition pointed out some inconsistencies in the list, on the ranking system and even pointed out that some of the artists that feature in the list, sometimes doesn’t even sound familiar to him.

I really don’t care about the so-called world ranking. I don’t need a list to do what I like. I am at 1, yes. And Tiësto is very many places below me. That doesn’t make sense, does it? I started playing music through him. I am not a better DJ than him, maybe now I just have a bit more hype around me. By the way, there are also people in that list from whom I have never heard of, so I have my doubts about the creation.

Martin also discussed the importance of being placed on the list for artists that want to tour in the “new market” of Asia and China.

In any case, I have never made a call to vote for me and I will never do so. Whether that list should be abolished? I can try, but it will continue. Particularly in Asia, great importance is attached to it. But the only thing that really matters is how many tickets you sell and whether you make people happy.

Garrix’s seemingly authentic devotion to the music over accolades is a quality that has been applauded my many, however whether or not his comments about the Top 100 list will affect his ranking in the future is yet to be seen.
