TRESOR Talks ‘Wale Wale,’ Musical Influences & The Future of African Dance Music

We sat down with South African music mogul TRESOR, as he lets us in to his busy world as he celebrates the release of ‘Wale Wale’ alongside Kenyan sensation Sofiya Nzau. The singer, songwriter, producer, businessman and label boss provides insight in to his world and how he manages to keep all of the plates spinning.

Your new release Wale Wale is performing really well, inyour opinion what is the most important element in the song? Why do you think it’s been received so well?

Wale Wale is a very special record with really unique and authentic African vocals, using melodies that make sure it remains true to its roots as a product of African creativity.

In dance music, aside from afro house, what genres do youfind the most influential to you and your sound?

I would say disco, synth pop, afrobeats, house and electro all find their way in to my sound, I find influence from all different types of music.

You’re a singer, songwriter, producer and label boss, willyou ever add DJ to this list?

I am really very curious to one day experiment with this,I havewatched the legendary Black Coffee DJ a few times and it’s definitely a form of art I would love to learn in the future. Let’s see!

You have worked with superstars in music, when it comesto current DJ’s and producers, who would you like to work with in the future?

Daft Punk, Black Coffee, Calvin Harris and Fred Again are all names that come to mind when I think of producers at the very top of their game.

Your label/agency recently partnered with Sunset Studiosin Cape Town, what makes the location so special to you?

Sunset recording studios is really the most incredible place torecord on the planet. The location and surroundings are out of this world, so incredibly picturesque.

When I am at Sunset, I literally forget the world and get immersed in creating music surrounded by nature with themost incredible vineyards and globally renown eateries nearby.

In your opinion, what makes a great environment to makemusic?

Personally, I love to be surrounded by nature away fromeveryday madness. I create my best work this way. I believe the serenity and tranquility really bleed in to whatever I create.

If you could describe Wale Wale as a real-world place, howwould it look?

It would look like Congo river flowing through Masai Mara inKenya. A perfect encapulation of African beauty and greatness.

What do you have in store for the rest of 2025?

Excited to drop new more music and most importantly, hopeto spend summer doing shows. Let’s see what the future holds!
