The government has granted the Belgian music festival, Tomorrowland, 1.8 million euros. This is to help organizers with the financial means to hold the event this year if they decide to move forward.
All music festivals planning to take place between the 1st of July and the 31st of December 2021, have the opportunity to apply for financial help from the Flemish government. Applications can be submitted until the 3rd of May.
Tomorrowland applied and the officials granted them 1.8 million euros. Organizers can use this money to make the event take place this year. A refund is not necessary if the event gets canceled. But if the event takes place, they need to pay it back within 3 months after it ends.
Tomorrowland says that they are doing everything possible to keep the event on the initial dates, but because of the unstable corona situation, they are also considering other possibilities.
“The stage for this year has already been built and is located in our warehouse in Rumst … We are still focusing on the originally planned dates of July 16 – 18 and July 23 – 35. But we realize that the corona situation makes it increasingly difficult to achieve it and we are therefore also looking at other dates.”, said Debby Wilmssen, a spokesman from Tomorrowland.
Some sources are saying that Tomorrowland could be moved to late August. Nervo, the twin DJ duo, said in a recent interview that Tomorrowland will postpone the event to the end of August. No official statement has been made yet.
