Above & Beyond took the launch of Anjunabeats Volume 17 to 26 Leake Street, a tunnel venue buried beneath the streets of London — for a limited-capacity pop-up that put the band within arm’s reach of the fans who have followed them for years. Jono, Tony and Paavo have headlined amphitheatres, festival mainstages, and sold-out arenas across the globe. Wednesday night was different. Wednesday night, fans were close enough to high-five them mid-set.
Inside the Room
From the opening moments, the energy inside the tunnel was palpable. Fans danced shoulder to shoulder throughout the night, the stage surrounded on all sides by a crowd that had earned their place in the room through years of loyalty to the Anjunafamily. The intimate setting, worlds away from the scale at which Above & Beyond typically operates, turned the evening into something closer to a rave than a concert. Sweat-soaked, loud, and alive in the way that only small rooms can be.
The evening featured several standout moments that went well beyond a straightforward DJ set. Longtime Anjuna favourite Oliver Smith joined the band onstage to mark the release of his new remix of the iconic trance classic “Fiji” by Atlantis — a record that appears on Disc One of the compilation and drew an immediate reaction from the crowd. Later in the night, station2station joined Above & Beyond during a performance of their collaborative track “Hi-Tech,” adding a second surprise guest appearance that the room clearly did not see coming.
Two moments defined the night above all others. When “Feel The Vibe” — Above & Beyond’s cover of the Axwell and Errol Reid house classic from 2008, set for official release this Friday alongside the full compilation — dropped, the entire room erupted. Fans clapped in unison. The floor bounced. Then came the Club Mix of “Sailing Off The End Of The World,” and the tunnel filled with voices — a wall-to-wall singalong that turned a small London venue into something that felt considerably larger than its square footage.
The Compilation
Anjunabeats Volume 17 now available to stream is the first entry in the series since 2021 and the most expansive edition yet. Spanning 35 tracks across two distinct mixes, the compilation draws from across the full Anjunabeats roster, from longstanding collaborators to the next generation of artists shaping the label’s future.
Disc One moves through a deeper, more progressive palette. PROFF, ANUQRAM, XIRA, Ezequiel Arias, Jaytech, Ferry Corsten and Marsh, Ronski Speed, Simon Gregory, Darren Tate, Oliver Smith’s “Fiji” remix, and a run of Above & Beyond material — including the Club Mix of “When You Believe” with Victoria Horn and a new remix of Bedrock’s “Heaven Scent” — build a mix that travels from tribal grooves and nineties trance nostalgia to genuine emotional peak.
Disc Two shifts into higher energy territory. J Ribbon, Michael Cassette, Grum and Amba Shepherd, Genix and Dosem, Sunny Lax, Darren Tate, station2station’s “Hi-Tech” and the lead single “When I Look In Your Eyes” with Justine Suissa — which premiered at ABGT600 in Mexico City and became one of the most in-demand IDs of Above & Beyond’s recent world tour — close the compilation on a note of genuine euphoria. “Feel The Vibe” and the Club Mix of “Sailing Off The End Of The World” sit in the heart of the mix, both of which proved their dancefloor credentials emphatically at Leake Street.
For the first time in the series’ twenty-plus year history, Anjunabeats Volume 17 will also be available on vinyla 12-track sampler handpicked by Above & Beyond.
