A cross-regional collaboration is set to make waves this spring as Southwest Michigan’s rising bass artist BUTTONZ teams up with Denver-based producer SNDY for their 3-track EP Moon Juice, arriving May 22, 2026 via Chicago’s forward-thinking label Ex Medias. This release marks the debut for both artists on the imprint, signaling a new chapter in their evolving musical journeys.
The collaboration began with a chance encounter in Chicago at a New Year’s pre-party for Pretty Lights in 2025. What started as a casual moment within the community quickly developed into a strong creative connection, with both artists recognizing how naturally their styles complemented each other. Since then, BUTTONZ and SNDY have continued building together, channeling that early chemistry into a project that feels intentional and cohesive.
The title Moon Juice reflects their shared approach to sound design, especially their interest in fluid, “wet”-feeling filter work and vocoded textures that give their music a warped, otherworldly character. That sonic identity runs throughout the EP, creating a consistent and immersive listening experience across all three tracks.
Blending BUTTONZ’s intricate sampling, heavy low-end, and funk-inspired textures with SNDY’s atmospheric sound design and dynamic production style, the project explores a wide yet unified sonic palette. It opens with “Moon Juice,” the track that started the collaboration, merging bass, hip-hop, and funk into a seamless introduction. “Steppin In” follows with a hip-hop-driven groove and playful, unpredictable sound design that keeps the energy moving. The EP closes with “So Cold,” a darker, more emotional track shaped by winter-inspired atmospheres and hard-hitting rhythms built for the dancefloor.
Overall, Moon Juice reflects a shared vision rooted in hip-hop, funk, and bass music. These influences form the foundation of the duo’s sound, balancing groove and soul with underground energy and modern experimentation. Released via Ex Medias, the Chicago-based label led by Able Grey, the project aligns with a platform known for highlighting forward-thinking talent in the bass scene. Moon Juice arrives May 22, 2026 on all major streaming platforms.
