This October Ministry of Sound London celebrates 34 years at the forefront of global club culture. An extraordinary milestone, the south London institution will host a four-room extravaganza on Saturday, October 4, 2025, headlined by New York house icon Armand Van Helden. He will be joined by rising talents Olive F and Paisley Jensen, with more artists yet to be announced.
Looking Ahead – 35 years and beyond
Few venues embody the spirit of electronic music quite like Ministry of Sound which has been a London staple for 34 years. It has defined nightlife for over three decades. Influencing dance music beyond London, with a record label, global events, and a reputation as a rite of passage for clubbers worldwide.
Commenting on the MoS’ 34 the Anniversary celebration, Matt Long, Club Director, said, “We’re excited to welcome house music legend Armand Van Helden to the helm, alongside Olive F and Paisley, as we celebrate 34 years of the Club. It’s been a pivotal year for us, collaborating with incredible brands and launching our No Velvet Rope Society. A fresh take on the VIP experience. And we’re just getting started. Big plans are already in motion for 2026: we’ll be raising the bar for dance floors across the UK with a refurbishment of the iconic Box room and expanding our global presence.”
2025: A Year of Reinvention
Ministry of Sound, London entered 2025 with fresh momentum, launching three in-house brands that highlight its diverse programming:
- Smoove – spotlighting UKG, funky, and R&B.
- URGE – a stripped-back tech house night featuring names like Matthias Tanzmann, Cuartero, Blondi, and Brisotti.
- Disco Daddy – a disco-led session that has hosted the likes of Derrick Carter and Dimitri From Paris.
The summer saw a major renovation of the NVR space, its first in over a decade, reimagined as an open mezzanine overlooking the iconic Box room. The Box room is home to the club’s renowned Martin Audio sound system. Alongside this came the No Velvet Rope Society, a new membership concept designed to redefine the VIP experience for a modern generation.
Ministry has also embraced evolving nightlife habits with the launch of a sober raving concept. They serve curated mocktails, low-alcohol beers, and CBD-infused drinks.
From South London to Global Dance Culture
Founded in 1991 by James Palumbo, Humphrey Waterhouse, and Justin Berkmann, Ministry of Sound began as an experiment inspired by New York’s Paradise Garage. With no alcohol sales at first and a 24-hour license, the focus was purely on sound and atmosphere. The club’s Martin Audio system and later Dolby Atmos installation has made it as one of the best-sounding venues.
Over the decades, the club has become a global dance music institution, hosting millions of clubbers and legendary DJs. From Carl Cox, David Morales to Pete Tong. Its impact grew beyond the dance floor with the launch of the Ministry of Sound record label in 1993. Which released best-selling compilations like The Annual and global hits from Sigala, DJ Fresh, and London Grammar. By 2016, Sony Music acquired the label arm. It helped MoS expand into a full-fledged multimedia brand while the club remained independent.
