The Netherlands Marching To Unmute Festivals

On Saturday, huge crowds took part in the Unmute Us protest in cities across the Netherlands. The march organized by event industry leaders aimed to protest against the Dutch government’s ban on large events until October.

More than 70,000 ravers attended the movement. Cities involved were Eindhoven, Groningen, Nijmegen, Utrecht, Rotterdam and Amsterdam. The protest itself looked like a moving festival. Marchers were moving and dancing alongside trucks with DJs and huge sound systems.

Bram Merkx, the initiator of Unmute Us, says “I had so many goosebumps all day. This is our scene, this is what we live for. Happy people, music, and positivity. I only now realize how terribly I missed this.”

The demands were clear. Unmute Us wants the ban lifted for September. Even if the government accepts, it would still come too late for events like Down the Rabbit Hole or Mysteryland. We look forward to seeing the outcomes of this loud scream.
