Hot Since 82 Returns With New Album ‘Obsessions’ And A Lead Single ‘Shaded’

Six years after 'Recovery,' Daley Padley returns with a nine-track album on Knee Deep In Sound.

Daley Padley, the man behind the ‘Hot Since 82’ alias has announced his fourth studio album, ‘Obsessions,’ arriving September 4th on his own Knee Deep In Sound imprint. Alongside the announcement comes lead single ‘Shaded’, a reimagining of Shades of Rhythm’s ‘Sound of Eden’. This is one of the most iconic records of the UK rave era, out now.

Written across a period of constant touring, movement and introspection, ‘Obsessions’ holds the push and pull between intensity and stillness that has increasingly defined his world. It is less a traditional dance record and more of self reflection where Hot Since 82 finds himself now, as an artist and as a person.

The Album

‘Obsessions’ is Hot Since 82’s fourth full-length album and his first since Recovery’ in 2020. This was a six-year gap that Daley has spent touring relentlessly, building Knee Deep In Sound into one of the UK’s respected house music imprints, and quietly working through the kind of creative reckoning that produces albums worth waiting for.

The nine-track record opens with ‘All That Matters’ before moving through ‘Shaded’ with Shades of Rhythm, ‘Life’s Too Short,’ ‘Eternity’ with Zoe Kypri, ‘Wow,’ and ‘State of Mind’ with Kuuda, three further tracks remain to be revealed ahead of the September release. The album draws heavily from the deep house sound that first brought Padley widespread recognition in the early 2010s, threading themes of self-acceptance through a sonic palette that feels simultaneously nostalgic and entirely present.

“Obsessions features nine tracks and, remarkably for me, it’s the only album I’ve ever completed and handed in on time,” Padley said. “Because of that, it feels like a real accomplishment and a complete body of work. I’m incredibly proud of it. There are lots of different shades and styles of house music across the album, but every track is connected by the same passion and love for the music. I thoroughly enjoyed making this record, and it’s truly special to me. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed creating it.”

‘Shaded’ and the UK Rave Connection

‘Shaded’ samples Shades of Rhythm’s ‘Sound of Eden’, a record originally written as a theme track for a planned rave called ‘The Garden of Eden’ before evolving into one of the defining anthems of the UK rave era following a major rework involving new drum breaks, bass-lines and vocals. The Peterborough trio were instrumental in shaping the sound of a generation during the height of British house music in the early 1990s.

‘Shaded’ keeps the vocal hook and chord progression of the original intact, then pulls them into a sharper, heavier frame built for current rooms. A bridge between the rave heritage that shaped Padley and the dance floors he plays today. The track has already found its way into his summer DJ sets ahead of its official release.

Person behind the moniker ‘Hot Since 82’

Daley’s career began with 12-hour sets at the age of 17 in his hometown of Barnsley, UK. A foundation built entirely on instinct and commitment to sound that has since taken him to Glastonbury, Coachella, Ibiza residencies at Pacha, Space and Amnesia, and his own immersive touring experience TAKEN. He is a top ten best-selling artist on Beatport and has earned multiple Essential Mixes and Hottest Records with BBC Radio 1.

2026 has already been a productive year before ‘Obsessions’ even arrives. ‘Right On, Right On’ with Silicone Soul landed on Armada Music, and ‘Forever/Paper Walls’ with Kuuda dropped on Bedrock Records in March. He also recently performed a live sunset set recorded 58 floors above London at Horizon 22, the city’s highest viewing platform for Beatport Live.
