- Hey Julian Jordan, how have you been? It’s been a while since we last spoke. Congratulations on your latest release, “Right Nahh”
True that. I’ve been doing very good. Thank you so much. I’m very busy in the studio these days. I’m having amazing tours that I just did, and I’m actually enjoying some real studio time right now. And also, I’ve been very busy in the gym, so I’m working on my health, my mental health, and on some really good music.
- What was the initial inspiration behind “Right Nahh”? Was there a specific moment or idea that sparked the track?
If you listen to the track, you’ll notice it combines electro house with tech house. I fell in love with electronic music because of electro house and the French scene at that time. There were a lot of electro house DJs playing in Amsterdam, and I was hooked. It’s gritty, raw, and super cool, and it always caught my attention. That’s something I’ve always wanted to include in my productions.
Some people mentioned that the track has a similar vibe to “Losing My Head,” which I released a few years ago. That’s true. I’ve always loved using an electro-style bassline in the drop. With this track, I wanted to go back to the younger version of myself and reconnect with the music I originally fell in love with.
- Can you walk us through the production process? Did anything unexpected happen in the studio?
The production process was pretty chill. When you let go of what people expect from you, you can free your mind and work much more easily. I think I finished the track in about two hours.
The interesting part is that it’s actually my voice on the track. I wrote the lyrics and recorded myself rapping, then used AI to transform the voice so it sounds like someone else. That was a fun and creative process.
- How would you describe your current sound compared to a few years ago?
It hasn’t changed that much for me. I always feel like I’m in the kitchen cooking the dish, but I’m not the one eating it. I try to keep my own style in everything I produce.
For me, it doesn’t feel like a completely different genre because I’ve always been inspired by this kind of music. But for the listener, it might sound a bit different. People might say it’s more house-oriented or more electro-driven, and that’s true. I’ve been going back to those roots.
- Which upcoming shows are you most excited to play this track at?
Honestly, any show. This track works for festivals and club shows. It’s not limited to one type of setting. You could even play it in your car. I’m looking forward to playing it everywhere.
- Any collaborations in the works that you can tease?
Not really. I don’t collaborate that often because I want to focus on my own brand and vision right now. I’m working on what I call “JJ 2.0,” and I feel like I need to build that foundation myself first.
That said, I do enjoy collaborating, especially with people outside the DJ world. I like working with rappers, singers, bass players, or artists from completely different genres. That’s where you get the most creative results. When two DJs work together, it can sometimes feel limiting. I prefer stepping outside the box.
- What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned recently in your career?
You can’t expect anything from anyone. In the end, it’s you versus you. You have to be able to do everything yourself, especially in the beginning. You can build a team later, but if you can’t handle things on your own at first, it’s very difficult to succeed.
Another important lesson is surrounding yourself with positive people who share the same vision. I even believe in having unrealistic goals, because in my world, unrealistic doesn’t exist. The most successful people often have the craziest ideas. That’s the kind of energy you need around you. Negative people can really affect your path, so it’s important to choose your circle carefully.
- What’s the one activity you love doing in your free time when not making music?
I love going to the gym and running. I run about four times a week and go to the gym almost six days a week. Since December, it has become part of my routine. If I don’t go, I don’t feel good. I just show up and work on becoming a better version of myself.
I also love sports in general, padel, baseball, tennis, and pretty much anything active. I enjoy hiking as well. My family lives close to the woods, so we often go for long hikes together. I really value that family time.
- What message do you want to send to fans who’ve been supporting you from day one?
I’m really grateful they’re still here. A lot has changed over the years, my style, my online presence, everything. I grew up in this scene, and the fans who have followed me since I was 15 basically grew up with me. That’s something very special.
Following someone from their teenage years into adulthood is unique. It really feels like family, and I’m very thankful for that support.
- This is all for now. Thank you for your time answering our questions. Where can our community find out more about your music and your future releases?
You can find everything on my Instagram, SoundCloud, TikTok, X, and YouTube. I’m very active on all platforms.
I recently started a vlog series on YouTube where I show more of the personal side of my life, behind the scenes, backstage moments, and what life as a DJ is really like. The first vlog, filmed in Tokyo, Japan, is already live, and the next one is coming soon.
For everyone who has supported me so far, thank you. And for the new people joining, this is going to be a crazy ride. Let’s go crazy right Nahh.
