HOW TO CREATE YOUR PERFECT VOCAL?
MELODYNE THE VOCAL
Autotune is automatic tuning and gives that robotic/T-Pain effect. Nice if you want to use that in your productions. But nowadays it’s more healthy to do it in a smooth kinda way. So what i usually do is to use Melodyne (manually tuning) to get more that Artifact tuned version of a vocal. First of all try to know the basics of Melodyne. There are a lot of Youtube videos that you can watch for free. With Melodyne it’s very important to really listen to the sound of the vocal first before you are going to change words with the Pitch Center and/or Pitch Drift. Sometimes it’s also better to leave parts of the vocals how it is, because it’s more a natural feeling. And sometimes it’s sounds way better. Ofcourse it really depends on how the vocal parts sounds. So really listen good to all the words that the vocalist is singing. And then tuning it step for step and let your ears do the work. If the vocal is pitched correctly it fits better in the mix also. So it’s very important to tune the vocal in a good way.
WHAT TO PUT ON YOUR CHAIN?
When you melodyne the whole vocal and it sounds great it’s time to put other effects on it like: a little bit of Autotune (Antares). After that you can use an EQ to get rid of the Low frequencies of the vocal and boost the vocal a little bit in the high ends. I also put another EQ on it and get rid of all the bad frequencies of the vocal. Then i put an R-DeEsser on it to get rid of all the high (S) notes of the vocal. Now it’s time to put a compressor on it like the Rvox from Waves. I use the Rbass to make it warmer and more in your face. Then another compressor to boost everything up. After that a multiband compressor. Use another EQ to boost up the high ends a little bit. A reverb to make it a little bit smoother and it sounds way better in your track.
QUESTION OF THE WEEK?
WHICH REVERB IS THE BEST ONE TO USE?
This really depends on what reverb do you like? I normally use the valhalla room or the RC REVERB Is also a really good one.
